While it did very well in testing for this review, it does come with one notable drawback. L2TP/IPsec is using UDP protocol and benefits from kernel-based acceleration, at least on the client-side (Windows) but also on server-side (in our implementation). However, if privacy is your main concern, you should stick to OpenVPN. While the speeds of VPN.ac are considerably slower with OpenVPN, your connection is more secure. Speed can be improved with the private DNS resolution.
